Prep seeks an experienced and enthusiastic speech and debate coach as we work to build upon a storied tradition at Grand & Warren.

Although the program has been dormant for several years, Prep’s vibrant history in this co-curricular mainstay stretches back through the decades, from the Beaudevin Debating Society’s origins in the school’s first half-century (to be joined by the junior Mulry and Collins Debating Societies by the 1940s) through to the perennial local successes and appearances in national-level tournaments in the 1990s and 2000s. The Beaudevin Society was once so essential to Prep’s identity that a debate hall was built on campus to serve as its home competition venue. Later a chapel, we know it today as the Hammer Heritage Room.

In response to student interest in reviving the program, Prep is currently working to assemble a coaching staff. We welcome inquiries from alumni, parents, and friends of Prep with experience in competitive speech and debate. Coaching responsibilities will include practices and tournaments, as well as attending coaches’ meetings for the Newark Catholic Forensics League. A stipend will be provided.
