Thomas Da Costa Lobo, ’21

Thomas was among the approximately 16,000 students nationwide who were announced this month as semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship program. Semifinalists represent the top scorers in each state, among more than 1.5 million students who took the PSAT/NMSQT in the fall of 2019 during their junior year, and about 1% of high school seniors in the U.S. attain semifinalist standing in the competition.

Thomas, along with his fellow semifinalists, will be invited to continue in the competition by completing a detailed application process that evaluates candidates’ academic performance, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and other honors and awards received. Based on those criteria, along with application essays and recommendations from school officials, the pool will be further narrowed to Finalists and then Scholars, with those announcements to come in the spring of 2021.

In addition, nine seniors were named commended students in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Competition.

Commended Students are those who scored among the top 50,000 students in the nation on the 2018 PSAT, and are recognized for their outstanding academic promise. Congratulations to the following seniors for achieving this honor:
