Last Sunday, Prep hosted the annual Mother-Son Dance (aka the “Mom Prom”) at the Venetian. The usually-paced event was quite different this year due to capacity limitations, as only seniors and their mothers attended (last year’s event was, in fact, the last major Prep event before the pandemic upended life at Grand & Warren). The event usually takes place in March but was postponed until after the 143rd Commencement ceremony, which allowed many of the seniors to show up in their white graduation tuxedos. Nonetheless, the boys and their mothers shared an afternoon of smiles and some tears, as this would be some moms’ last Prep event to attend.

The afternoon events included an opening speech from Dr. Gomez, dancing, a photo booth, and the famous Mother-Son pictures. The mothers received a “Prep Mom ’21” t-shirt and pin as well as a written heartfelt letter with a rose from their sons. This event was a great way to conclude a strenuous and emotional year of hybrid, then virtual, then in-person learning for the seniors. Hopefully next year, the dance floor will be filled!

Special thanks to Dalma Santana & Kate Lillis-Magnus for organizing and planning this event.
